The college audition process is complex, high-stakes, and often overwhelming. Success requires more than raw talent—it demands strategic planning, technical preparation, and clear guidance at every step.
At Vocaletics, we believe in clarity and structure. We separate voice instruction from college advising because each requires dedicated focus and expertise. Your voice lessons concentrate on technique, repertoire, and performance. Your consulting sessions focus on school selection, application strategy, and audition logistics.
This separation ensures you receive expert guidance in both areas without compromise. You know exactly what each session is for, what you're working toward, and how to measure progress.

Every session has a defined purpose. You know what you're working on, why it matters, and how it fits into your larger plan.

With clear milestones and timelines, you can track your development and adjust your strategy as needed.

Separating instruction from advising means you get specialized attention in both areas, not a compromise between them.

Larry Jay Giddens, D.M.E., is a voice teacher, music educator, and arts administrator with extensive experience in higher education, nonprofit leadership, and student development. His training and professional work center on classical and contemporary vocal performance, applied voice instruction, and curriculum-based teaching within university and community settings.
As a university Lecturer of Voice and Recruiting Coordinator, he works directly with undergraduate and graduate students in applied lessons, studio classes, auditions, and performance preparation, while also engaging in institutional recruiting, evaluation, and admissions-related processes. His background combines performance-informed pedagogy with a strong understanding of how music programs function academically and administratively.
Throughout his career, Larry has guided students through every stage of the college audition and placement process, from early exploration and pre-screen preparation to transfers and graduate-level auditions. He has worked with high school students preparing for conservatories and university music programs, current college students seeking stronger program fit, and young professionals preparing for advanced study. His students have successfully navigated competitive auditions, clarified academic and artistic goals, and secured placements that align with their technical readiness, financial realities, and long-term plans.
The structured model used at Vocaletics grew out of years of observing how college planning was often handled informally alongside voice lessons, without adequate time or clarity. Recognizing that vocal instruction and audition advising require different forms of focus and expertise, Larry developed an approach that intentionally separates the two. Voice lessons concentrate on technique, repertoire, and performance development, while consulting sessions address school selection, application strategy, timelines, and logistics. This structure allows each area to receive dedicated attention, leading to clearer expectations, stronger preparation, and more sustainable outcomes for singers and their families.

We don't try to squeeze college planning into voice lessons or rush through technique to discuss applications. Each service has dedicated time and focus.

We don't just help you prepare for auditions—we help you understand the landscape, make informed decisions, and develop a plan that aligns with your long-term goals.

You always know what you're paying for, what to expect from each session, and how your work fits into your overall plan. No surprises, no ambiguity.

We provide honest assessments and realistic timelines. The college audition process is competitive and demanding—we prepare you for that reality.
